Description
This book, a sequel to "Creating Sanctuary," asserts that there is currently a large-scale failure among providers of human services (i.e. health care, mental health care, social services). This failure, authors Bloom and Farragher believe, is the result of considering human service delivery systems to be more like “machines” than like “living organisms.” After giving an overview of trauma theory research and explaining how workplace stress threatens human service delivery organizations, the authors dig into their thesis that human service delivery organizations themselves are collectively traumatized, describing parallel symptoms of trauma that both individuals and organizations experience. They believe that organizational trauma needs to be treated and overcome just like individual trauma does, and they propose an organizational model, called the Sanctuary Model, designed to avoid this organizational trauma.
