Description
This collection of research, edited by Melissa Farley, condemns society’s blindness towards and tacit cultural approval of prostitution, which is shown to be inherently violent and dehumanizing towards women. The contributors rely heavily on studies involving prostituted women and their lived experiences to get as clear and complete a picture as possible of the violence that prostituted women experience in their daily lives, the psychological and emotional effects of prostitution on prostituted women, and an understanding of prostituted women’s needs. The book is divided into two sections: “Understanding Prostitution and Trafficking as Organized Interpersonal Violence” and “Healing from Prostitution and Trafficking.”
