Description
This book presents scenarios involving real therapy clients from various different multicultural backgrounds and identities, analyzes how clients’ cultures and identities might affect their lives in ways that therapists might not understand, and provides suggestions for how therapists can adapt their thinking and practice to better meet clients’ needs. The cases in this book are divided into three sections: case studies involving U.S. racial/ethnic minority populations, special cases involving ethnic minorities, and case studies involving other, non-ethnic, multicultural populations. For each case, there is a description of the client’s background and the progress of the therapy, a series of discussion questions to help the reader think more deeply about the case, and an analysis in which the contributors break down the cultural concerns relevant to the case and assess the therapist’s response to the client’s needs.
