Description
Born on a Blue Day is the autobiography of Daniel Tammet, a savant with Asperger’s disorder. Tammet is capable of incredible feats of language-learning and mathematical calculations, and he begins this book with a description of the synesthetic way that he perceives numbers as having different colors, shapes, and emotions. He then tells the story of his life: the love and support that his parents gave him, struggling with epilepsy and with fitting in at school, his father’s mental breakdown, discovering his homosexuality, volunteering as an English teacher in Lithuania, and falling in love with his partner Neil. Throughout the book, Tammet includes puzzles and mental exercises that had captivated him when he was younger, and ends with discussions of linguistics and the number pi, of which he recited over 22,000 digits to set a British and European record.
