Description
This comprehensive literature review collects and synthesizes research about the relationships between depression, parenting, and other comorbid factors; disparities and obstacles to receiving treatment for depression; and evidence-based treatment interventions to help improve services for families with depressed parents. The authors draw several conclusions – that depression is common and treatable but many barriers to treatment exist, that depression may interfere with successful parenting, that depression treatments currently do not usually incorporate clients’ parental status, and that promising family-based interventions for depression do exist.
